About Villaverde Fuerteventura

Villaverde is just north of La Oliva, on the road between La Oliva and Corralejo. The village is in the hills between the extinct volcanoes of Mount Escanfraga on the east side and Mount Arena on the west side.

In the past the fertile volcanic soil and the natural underground wells made it an ideal area for growing crops, and is the reason why there are two windmills (now restored) on the escarpment on the south side of the village, for dealing with the grain that needed milling. The windmills present a worthwhile photographic opportunity, and there are excellent views of La Oliva and Mount Tindaya from the ridge.
